Guide to Create Business Name

Hi Everyone!

I'm creating a great name for my business. I came across a few tips and guidelines on choosing or creating a great business names. Let me share them with you.

Types of Business Names:

1~ Personal Names: naming a business after you is an easy thing to do. It also ads some sort of credibility to your company. You can use your initials, first name, last name or full name.

2~ Descriptive Names: descriptive names make it easier for you customers to understand what kind of good or service you provide.

3~ Combined Business Names: combination of personal and descriptive names is also common in the modern business community.

4~ Brandable Business Names: hard to come up with, but have the most success in the long term.

How to:

1~ Brainstorm. Think about how you want people to feel when they hear the name. Write down the words on paper.Take a glance at the names of the other businesses within your industry. What is it about certain names do you like? Or dislike? What about the name makes it effective or ineffective? Figure out what you like, and don't like, about other business's names.

2~ Relate. Think about related words and phrases that evoke the feelings you want. Hit the thesaurus and find all the synonyms for your words and phrases.

3~ Relate more. Find out the Greek and Latin translations of your words. Figure out what colors, gemstones, plants, animals, etc., relate to your words.

4~ Experiment. Start playing with combinations of your various words and partial words. Don't be judgmental now - just make a list.

5~ Reflect. Review your list and just give some thought to each name. How does it make you feel when you hear it?

6~ Communicate. Go over the list with someone you trust. Have them tell you how each name makes them feel, and how memorable they think it is.

7~ Prioritize. Throw out any that just don't fit and make a prioritized list of the rest.

8~ Check trademarks. Make sure no one is using that name in your line of business. You may be able to use the name in a completely different business, but be aware that it may create confusion for both you and them.

9~ Check domain names. You want to make sure that an appropriate domain name is available. You want YourCompanyName.com, of course. If that's not available, you may want to reconsider.

10~ Search the internet. Even if someone doesn't have the domain, you still want to see what else is out there that has the same name. That doesn't mean you don't use it if you find something, but you need to know.

11~ Check assumed names. For sole proprietors, check for local assumed names. (also known as DBA).

12~ Stake your claim! Register your assumed name or file your incorporation papers right away. Also, start using either TM (trademark) or SM (service mark). You do NOT have to register them to use them.

Tips:

1~ Avoid generic brand names since they are hard to remember and almost impossible to trademark.

2~ Avoid geographic related names since they limit the possibility of expansion.

3~ Don’t restrict yourself to a few products or services. Establish a broad view for the long term success and expansion.

4~ Remember that having “A” as your first letter could easily improve your position in Yellow Pages.

5~ Emphasize your business mission, tell customers what you do and why you are good at it.

6~ A good business name has to be memorable – but easy to spell and pronounce.

7~ A good business name needs to include information about what your business does. - Chances are good that your new business is not going to become an international brand. It certainly isn’t instantly going to become as well known as Nike. So you need to be sure that your new business name at least gives your potential customers or clients some clues about what you actually do.

Current Status: Busy

I am currently busy preparing and promoting for Hari Raya orders. Few discussions had been made, people to meet. I am expecting busy months ahead, July and August.

Hey, never thought there are a lot of women out there only working for a month (Ramadhan) and get paid (profit) for a year. True story. I read it here, and actually met a few people that eventually proved it right.

Currently I am promoting my cookies to bazaar seller...and if you happen to know anyone, you can contact me... :)

Home Bakery - You Won't Get Rich Doing It

As pessimist would tell us, "you won't get rich by doing that". We agree, yes we won't be rich by doing home bakery. That's the reality. You may ask, "But why you do it?". Below are the answers that I think already crossed your mind.
  • sick and tired of the rat race...(the longer you live, the bigger the cage will be)
  • bored with office politic (hehe)
  • to escape the 9-5 working hours
  • I prefer to do what I love, think about the financial rewards later
  • in order to aim something bigger, we have to start somewhere, right?
  • want to meet new people, instead of the same 20 person in the department
Home bakery is one of the Do-It-Yourself enterprise. Though we won't be rich because the income largely come from active income. But doing what you love and survive, is a bonus. Plus, the flexible working hours that most of the corporate slave envy and the wonderful (and also not so wonderful) people that you get to meet. Guess what, you will get to work at home surrounded with people that you love. This is exactly very contrast to what you will endure in office :).

Today's marketing is very different from what we had nearly 10 years ago. We are very lacking in the marketing field, but thanks a lot to the internet. Nowadays, even Hari Raya cookies are sold online. So we just tag along with the current trend. Jump into the bandwagon and see what happened although we were not very clear of what exactly internet marketing really about. When ResipiEmak first launched, the orders were very overwhelming and unexpected. Thank you very much to our first batch of online customers.

The point is, there is no harm in trying, especially if you have the support of your loved ones. And I am grateful to have such a wonderful and supportive hubby. Thanks hubby! Maybe someday all the recipes that I learn from emak (mother) can be turn into a famous branding. Who knows?

I believe it is very clear that, doing what you love and try to build wealth around it is the only way to go. No shortcut to success, so take that first big step and ignore the pessimist.

Good luck!

Sugar! Pls keep the cookies fresh.

To supermom, home baker & cookie lover...

Normally what we do to keep the cookies fresh is by keeping them tight in a container. But do you know that sugar also able to keep the cookies from stale? Sugar is hygroscopic (able to attract moisture)...and also attracting ants!

If you want to keep that home made cookies fresh, place a teaspoon of sugar at the bottom of the cookie jar. This will just do it! Note to moms: You might want to consider this tip if you have ants problems :) .

Sugar can also be to keep the cookies dough from sticking. If you are making a cut-out cookies, try to dust the counter with confectioner's sugar/powder sugar instead of flour. For your info, dusting the counter with flour will only make your dough become dry.

Type of Cookies

Expect these cookies to be in our catalog soon... :)

Bar Cookies are prepared by putting the dough in a rectangular pan. They are baked and then cut into squares. Most drop cookie recipes can be converted to this type of cookie. These are the easiest cookies to make, because several batches are baked at once.

Drop cookies are the easiest individual cookies to make. Balls of dough are dropped from a spoon onto a cookie sheet. You can find the most famous drop cookies in Johor Bahru here :) .

Molded Cookies dough is formed by the hands into shapes such as: wreaths, crescents, canes, or balls. Balls are sometimes flattened with the bottom of a glass.

Pressed Cookies are made by pressing the dough through a cookie press or pastry tube to form different shapes. For Hari Raya, this type of cookies can filled half the table :) ...

Refrigerator or Icebox Cookies are prepared by shaping the dough into long rolls and then refrigerating them. Once cold, the dough can be sliced and baked. This is a great prepare-ahead-of-time dough because it can also be frozen.

Rolled Cookies take a little more preparation. With a rolling pin, chilled dough is rolled out. The dough is cut into shapes by using a knife, pastry wheel or cookie cutter.

Anti Fatigue Mat

Anti fatigue mat can help those who work long hours standing. Chef, home baker & full time moms are potential user of this anti fatigue mat. So, what is exactly anti fatigue mat? ANTI FATIGUE mat is a mat that can reduce strain on your foot, knee & back due to long standing period.

It is originally designed for industrial used but now they are available for those who spend hours at the kitchen counter. I am still looking for supplier in Johor Bahru. If there is any...So that I can say goodbye to all the aching in my foot when mixing the cookies dough or when doing daily task by the kitchen counter. :)

So how the mat work? In simple words, they absorb the body weight. Instead of transferring the body mass to the hard floor. :)

Before buying the mat, you can read it here for tips.

Home Bakery In Johor Bahru

Johor Bahru is the neighbor city of Singapore. As a capital city of Johor, a southern state of Malaysia, Johor Bahru or JB has always considered as southern gate of Malaysia. JB has a lot to offer if u plan to drop by. Shopping complex, leisure, a walk in Danga Bay or maybe dine in with your family at the well known "Tepian Tebrau".

In JB, there are several home bakers. They are really talented bussiness women (we haven't met any guy doing a home bakery biz yet). Here is the list of home bakers in Johor Bahru:

  1. Muffin d'Ummi
  2. de-Sweet Bite
  3. Pretty Mum Cupcake
  4. My Sal Homemade
  5. RC Bakery & Cake
  6. Resipi Emak - the best home made cookies :)
There might be some people that we missed. I'll be glad if anyone add the list :) ...

Baking bring family closer & for the people in the above list, bring in some extra money. Til next time. bye-bye.
